Five Towns eateries open, but business is slow

Despite the snow, people still have to eat so employees of various eateries throughout the Five Town businesses had to make the trek to work, however, most say, business has been slower than usual.

At Café Bagelo in Woodmere, Dot Houck said the parking lot behind the Broadway businesses hasn’t been touched and many residents have called the café to complain. “We’ve done all that we can,” she said. “But the residents want the whole lot plowed and that’s a county issue.” Houck also said while Bagelo opened at its normal time, it would most likely be closing early because business has been slow.

The Bagel Boss in Hewlett is also feeling the effects of the snow and business has been slower than usual, according to manager Elmer Arguta. “We understand why though,” Arguta said. He also added that Bagel Boss is operating during normal hours of 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. and that the parking lot has been plowed.

Cindy, an employee of Subway in Inwood, said the roads were “good” when she came into work this morning but that the parking lot in front of Subway was only partially plowed. She added that while business has been slow, the shop would operate as normal. The same can also be said for The Coffee Bar in Lawrence as business isn’t as busy as usual, but they will operate during their regular hours, said Manager Ariel Kataev.

In spite of the slower-than-normal business traffic occurring throughout the Five Towns, it doesn’t look like Mother Kelly’s in Cedarhurst will be closing early since business has been more hectic than usual. “We’ve been busier today because of all the deliveries we’ve been getting,” said Jenna Ramacca, an employee at Mother Kelly’s. She added that the restaurant parking lot has been plowed.
