Reported flooding minimal in the Five Towns

After a rainstorm that dropped nearly 2 inches of water in the metropolitan area last night and early this morning, reports from officials say there was minimal flooding in the Five Towns as being prepared helped.

“We cleaned all the drains and with pumping station we were read for it a day in advance, which minimized the flooding,” said Cedarhurst Mayor Benjamin Weinstock, who said the village endured “minimal flooding.”

“It was windy and there are twigs and branches in the street, but no big limbs,” he added. “Our guys are out this morning cleaning up the debris.

In Lawrence, Mayor Alex Edelman echoed Weinstock’s report, saying the village did not have ay major flooding and officials noted there are no reports of people getting stuck in there vehicles and the flooding mitigation work that was done is performing well.

George Pappas, mayor of Atlantic Beach, said the village is dry, just some “puddling.” Pappas, who is superintendent of Sanitary District 1, said his truck crews are also reporting minimal flooding.

It was reported that a portion of Rock Hall Road by the Lawrence Yacht & Country Club was flooded as well as Brookville Boulevard, which floods in minor rainstorms.

Before the soorm started Nassau County Bruce Blakemam had declared a astate of emergency.  The coastal flood warning will be in effect until Wednesday at 1 p.m. and the high wind warning  ended at 6 a.m.

PSE&G Long Island reported no power outages in the Five Towns.

Schools in the Five Towns were all in session at their normal times.
