Five Towns road covered by ice

Roads in the Five Towns has been blanketed by a complete sheet of ice according to Hatzalah and Achiezer

People are slipping and falling due to the icy conditions.

Village of Cedarhurst Mayor Andrew Parise said the parking lots were sanded this morning, but take extra care at Parking Field No. 9 where a water system problem is causing recurring flooding and icing. "People have to be careful," he said.

Hatzalah and Achiezer urge residents, especially the elderly and those who are handicapped, not to leave their homes unless they are required to do so.

Should anyone require emergency assistance call Hatzalah at (718) 230-1000. For any other assistance call Achiezer’s hotline at (516) 791-4444.

Nassau County police advise that motorists reduce their driving speed, leave ample room between vehicles and plan for a longer commuting time to help avoid accidents.

Temperatures are expected to climb during the day and the icy condition should dissipate.
