Girl scouts support Project It’s A Wrap

Girl Scout Troop 737 recently partnered with Rock and Wrap It Up! (RWU) to donate $140 for a freezer that was placed at Silvercup North Studios in the Bronx through Project It’s A Wrap, a component of Cedarhurst-based RWU.

Troop leader Laura Fratti said there are about 10 girls in the troop who attend Ogden, Hewlett and Lawrence elementary schools. The group sold more than 3,000 boxes of cookies this year, earning nearly $1,800 that is used for the troop and charitable organizations.

The freezer will store unused food for two weeks before it is picked up by RWU volunteers. RWU collects unused food and other items from movie sets, sporting events and concerts to be distributed to groups that help those in need. “The freezer is an amazing asset,” said Jessie Plotkin, national asset recovery director for RWU, said. Food stored in a refrigerator must be picked up within 24 hours.

This allows for a more flexible pickup schedule for the volunteers, Plotkin added.
Project It's A Wrap began in 1995 with the movie “Devil’s Own” when RWU started recovering food from film and television industry filming locations. “It’s a great way of purchasing something that will be used for many years,” said Syd Mandelbaum, who founded RWU 25 years ago.
