HAFTR graduates 82 at York College

The Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns and Rockaway High School’s class of 2013 included 82 students that graduated at York College in Queens on June 29.

Lawrence resident Rebecca Jedwab was the valedictorian. Jedwab’s unweighted GPA was a 98.8. She was president of the National Honor Society, profile editor of the yearbook, a volunteer at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center Department of Pediatric Oncology, and coordinated the school’s blood drive.

Jedwab was a varsity tennis and basketball player and received a community leadership award at “Leaders to Leaders Youth Summit.” She will be attending Barnard College and plans to study biology.

Samantha Weissman, of Woodmere, was salutatorian. Weissman played basketball, hockey and softball teams, and was involved in Write on for Israel, which led to her selection to attend to AIPAC (American Israel Public Affairs Committee) Policy Conference, the pro-Israel community’s preeminent annual gathering.

She also organizes fundraising events within the community, served as vice president of the student body and president of the Yeshiva League Model Congress. Weissman will attend Princeton University and major in computer science.
