Hawaii comes to Hewlett Harbor for SIBSPlace

Cool, dry weather combined with the Hawaiian theme of the SIBSPlace annual barbecue to create a day full of fun and food for nearly 160 children and parents at the Hewlett Harbor home of Michael Schamroth, a SIBSPlace founding donor.

Postponed due to rain from its August date, the four-hour event from noon to 4 p.m. featured assorted activities for the children, including inflatables. SIBSPlace (Survivorship in Brothers and Sisters) runs out of South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside and is a program that serves children, ages 5 to17, living with a sibling or parent who has cancer or another serious or devastating illness. “It was a day of relaxation for parents to enjoy their children,” said Suzanne Kornblatt, the SIBSPlace supervisor.
