His niece, Filomenia Perrella, called him her family’s favorite uncle and during Francis Suppa’s life he made everyone he knew feel welcome and took the time to get to know them.

“He was our favorite uncle and he was always there for us,” Perrella said. “He was a very patient and mild person. The type of person who didn’t get angry. He loved everyone, was friendly with everyone

and was very sociable. He loved his family and country.”

Suppa died on March 6 at South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside. He was 87.

Born on Nov. 24, 1924 in Tuckahoe, New York, Suppa served as a quartermaster in the U.S. Army during World War II and was at Normandy when Allied forces executed their D-Day invasion. “I was looking at his military discharge papers and said ‘wow’,” Perrella said.

He service spanned from April 22,1943 to Oct. 27, 1945. Suppa attained the rank of corporal and was awarded four Bronze Stars. He also served in northern France, the Rhineland and in Central Europe.

In 1949, he settled in Inwood. From 1963 until his retirement in 1993, Suppa was employed as a maintenance worker for the Village of Lawrence.

He is survived by Perrella and her husband Vincenzo, and their children Elizabeth and Tony, who will miss their great uncle.

A mass of Christian burial was held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Inwood on March 7. He was interred at Greenfield Cemetery in Hempstead.
