There were screams of joy from those on the rides, a classic movie shown and proclamations galore as the 26th annual Neighbors Helping Neighbors fair sponsored by the Herald was held last Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

The event held in Cedarhurst Park featured a host of rides, games and food also marked the 100th anniversary of Cedarhurst village — Sept. 16, 1910 — and boasted a showing of the film classic “The Wizard of Oz” on Saturday night.

The big slide attracted 8-year old Melina Hudson at least 10 times. “It’s fun and really fast,” she said as she scrambled to go again.

Sunday’s ceremonies had many local dignitaries, including Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-Mineola), State Sen. Dean Skelos (R-Rockville Centre, Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg (D-Long Beach), County Legislator Howard Kopel (7th District), along with candidates Francis Becker and Joshua Wanderer and Lawrence Mayor Martin Oliner paying tribute to Cedarhurst.

Jordana Sirlin who was a winner at the Herald booth said: “The fair is fun, there are lots of rides, games and nice performances at the stage. The fair is great.”
