Hewlett-Woodmere appoints new administrators

Hewlett-Woodmere public schools announced at its Feb. 27 Board of Education meeting the appointment of three new principals; Al Bauer, the current assistant principal at Hewlett High School, will become the principal at Woodmere Middle School, Franklin Early Childhood Center’s new principal will be Lorraine Smyth, the current assistant principal at Hewlett Elementary, and Evelyn Lolis will be the new principal at Hewlett Elementary School.

Lolis currently is the assistant principal of Saw Mill Road Elementary School in North Bellmore. Prior to that she taught at John F. Kennedy Elementary School in Great Neck for 11 years.

Kevin Bayen, the district director of Music since 1989, will become the district director of Art and Music for the 2013-’14 school year. Jessica Bayer, the district chairperson of Art and Technology is retiring in June.

Supervising 19 science teachers, staff and students in the middle and high schools and developing the science and health curriculum will be Brian Terry’s job as the new P-12 chairperson of Science in September. Currently he is as an adjunct professor in the School of Arts and Sciences at St. Thomas Aquinas College and science and health supervisor for the upstate Pelham Union Free School District.
