Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library is a Star Library award-winner

Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library was named a 2021 Star Library by the Library Journal. The LJ Index annually measures libraries across the country and rates them on a three-, four- or five-star scale based on physical circulation, circulation of electronic materials, library visits, program attendance, public internet computer use and Wi-Fi sessions.

It is 14th year in which LJ has scored public libraries nationwide. The 2021 scores and ratings are based on fiscal year 2019 data from the Institute of Museum and Library Services Public Library Survey. Library directors were also interviewed to learn how the pandemic has changed things since those numbers were collected.

“Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library is an outstanding library, and we are very proud to be recognized by Library Journal” HWPL Director William Ferro state in a news release.

The LJ Index gives an overall indication of how libraries compare to their peers nationally. Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library joins Great Neck, Jericho and Port Washington public libraries as the Nassau County libraries so honored.

“HWPL is incredibly receptive to our community’s needs, and this award highlights that we are doing things right.”  James Hartmann, HWPL’s head of User Experience & Technology, said in the release.
