Hewlett-Woodmere School District names Marie Donnelly new assistant superintendent for business

After joining the Hewlett-Woodmere School District on an interim basis in July, Marie Donnelly was officially appointed as the district’s assistant superintendent for business, succeeding Louis Frontario, who announced his resignation in June after working in the position for four years.

The appointment was made official at the Dec. 18 Board of Education meeting. Donnelly will be involved in capital planning, budgeting, financial management and business operations, district officials said.

“I am thrilled for the opportunity to continue my journey at Hewlett-Woodmere. The past six months have proven to be such a positive experience under the most difficult of circumstances,” Donnelly stated in a news release. “I look forward to continuing to work with the extraordinary staff and completing the budget development process for the 2021-2022 school year.”

Donnelly previously served as the assistant superintendent of business and operations for Seaford Public Schools, a position she held from 2018 to 2020. In this role, she oversaw the business, human resources, transportation, food service, facilities, security, technology and nursing staff. 

She also served as the school business official for the Island Park School District, the district treasurer at the East Meadow School District, the administrative assistant for business/school district auditor for Plainedge Public Schools, and the purchasing agent/assistant treasurer at Levittown Public Schools.

Donnelly earned her school business administrator certificate from Long Island University; an a master’s degree in business administration from Adelphi University; and a bachelor’s in criminal Justice from the State University of New York at Albany. She serves as the vice president of the Nassau Association of School Business Officials and is a member of the New York State Association of School Business Officials and the state Association of Municipal Purchasing Officials.

“Since joining the district in July, Mrs. Donnelly has emerged as a highly skilled school business leader who is exceedingly qualified to continue to lead our school business operations,” Marino said in a statement “Her years of experience have already resulted in significant changes to our school business office. I have no doubt that Mrs. Donnelly will continue to play a vital role in Hewlett-Woodmere.”
