Hindi’s Libraries holds a book pick up on April 23

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, Hindi’s Libraries continues to work to offer the gift of literacy. Though the book collection and distribution organization founded by Leslie Gang and Dovid Kanarfogel has paused its collections and shipments, they are sharing various literacy opportunities and initiatives with friends, supporters and recipients.

Along with asking people to set aside any children’s books they are no longer reading, Hindi’s Libraries has been sharing videos of “read alouds” across all of their social media platforms. “The goal is to ensure that children who need reading material are able to access books in any way possible,” Gang said in an email.

Hindi’s Libraries will hold a Book it Forward event on Thursday, April 23 at Gang’s home. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. boxes of gently used children’s books can be picked up only (no book drop offs)  in the driveway for recipients to collect. Additional times and da,ys are available upon request. There is no cost.

A calendar has been created to ensure that those who would like to take part partake can select a 30-minute time slot. Only one recipient is permitted per time slot. Attendees are asked to bring their own protective gear such as gloves and masks and bins and bags for the books.

Books have been in Gang’s garage since February, and due to social distancing guidelines, they have not yet been labeled or reviewed. Please review the quality and content of the books selected and label the books after being collected. A box of labels will be set alongside the books.
