The Lawrence Public Schools is presenting a special interactive Holocaust Exhibit called “When Humanity Fails.” The exhibit features a series of moving archival photographs and film footage of the atrocities and eventual liberation of the concentration camps during World War II.

The exhibit, which is located in the Christina Mazzitelli Dance Studio at Lawrence High School, is now open every day for visits by high school classes in both public and private schools throughout the community. The exhibit was made possible through a collaboration with the Afikim Foundation and with the assistance of Village of Lawrence Trustee Michael Fragin.

When visiting the exhibit, students have an opportunity to listen to testimonies from survivors and liberators in addition to viewing two videos and many photographs detailing the pain and suffering of those that went through the Holocaust. On a recent visit by Melanie Ratnoff's high school class, the students were visibly moved by the exhibit.

“They could not believe the condition of the people," said Ratnoff. “This exhibit really allowed them to get a true visual and feel of what the people who were in the concentration camps experienced.”

The exhibit will be open free of charge to the entire community on the following two Sundays at Lawrence High School at 2 Reilly Road in Cedarhurst May 9 from 2 p.m.- 5 p.m. and May 16, from 3 p.m.- 6 p.m. The exhibit will also be open all day on Tuesday, May 11.

The exhibit will conclude with a special Holocaust Memorial Concert by the Lawrence Philharmonic together with the Community Orchestra and a Men’s Chorus. This event, which is open to the entire community free of charge, will take place on May 16 at 6 p.m. in the Lawrence High School Auditorium.
