Hewlett High School hosted the NYC/Long Island First Tech Challenge Qualifier robotics tournament on Jan. 19. Home cooking was good for Hewlett as all three of its team, Bionica, Innovo and Roboboogie advanced to the regional championship at NYU/Poly on March 8.
The Innovo team of seniors Drew Beller, Josh Goldenberg and Nicholas Belluccia won the competition’s Inspire Award. Freshmen Lenny Khazan, Matt Perkins and Nate Roblin of Roboboogie rook the Think Award.
It was the first time the FTC held a qualifying event on Long Island. Teams from Herricks High School, Stony Brook and Horace Mann School in the Bronx also qualified for the regionals.
