Honored for academic excellence

Two North Woodmere residents are among the group of more than 11,000 students that earned top honors in the spring semester at the University of Alabama. Ashley Waschitz was named to the dean’s list and Taylor Waschitz earned President’s list honors. To earn the distinctions — dean’s and President’s list — a student must achieve an academic record of 3.5 or higher and 4.0, respectively.

Isabella Sarnelli, from Atlantic Beach, graduated from Ithaca College in May with a Bachelor of Science in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology.

Jillian Feuerstein, of Hewlett, was named to the dean’s list at the State University of New York at New Paltz for the spring semester. Dean’s list honors at SUNY New Paltz require a student to earn a semester grade point average of 3.3 or higher.

Hewlett resident Sarah Rosen and Lesley Guevara, of Inwood, earned dean’s list honors for the University of Hartford’s spring semester.

Among the 502 students that earned bachelor’s degrees at Muhlenberg College’s 171st commencement on May 19, were Mia Shmariahu, who received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and media and communication; Alexander Benary graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in theater and a minor in music, and Taylor Zuckerman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience, all are from Hewlett.

Gianna Papini, of Hewlett, was part of SUNY Oneonta’s women’s tennis team that completed the finished 2018-19 with an overall record of 16-8. During the fall season, the Red Dragons advanced to the SUNYAC championship match for the first time in program history. Papini competed in two singles during the season.

Six Hewlett residents were named to the spring semester dean’s list at Muhlenberg College. Sofia Barone, Emily Cooperstein, Rebecca Cooperstein, Mia Shmariahu, Danielle Simon and Taylor Zuckerman, all attained a GPA of at least 3.5 or higher at the Allentown, Pa. school.
