Hoping to have his career start flying

Micky Shiloah pursues his acting bug

If you’ve seen Miranda Cosgrove’s new music video, “Dancing Crazy,” you might not know that Long Island’s own Hewlett High School graduate, Micky Shiloah, plays her boyfriend in the video.

“It was such a fun experience,” Shiloah said of making Cosgrove’s music video. “Everyone on the set was so nice and I still have that song stuck in my head.”

Shiloah grew up in Forest Hills and moved to North Woodmere in fifth grade. His mother, Renata, moved the family to Long Island so her children would have a house and a backyard to play in. “We lived in an apartment in Queens and I wanted them to be able to play outside more,” she said. “There were also better schools which was the main reason for the move.”

When Shiloah was 7, he asked his mother if he could be on television. Renata, a former actress herself, took Shiloah and his sister to an agency in Manhattan and both children left with contracts. “The agents liked him a lot because he looked younger than he was,” she said of Shiloah, now 25.

Throughout high school, Shiloah had a modeling agent and appeared in print ads for T-Mobile, Mountain Dew and Foot Locker among others. He also writes his own music. After graduation in 2003 he pursued his dream.

“Right out of high school I got a manager,” he said. “I also attended Nassau Community College and Queens College. I changed majors a lot but ended up with media and communications.”

In 2009, Shiloah found an open casting call in New York and didn’t know what the call was for but decided to show up. It turned out to be for “Big Time Rush,” a show about a four-person boy band on Nickelodeon.

“The agents kept calling me back after my audition,” Shiloah said. “I didn’t hear from them for months and then they called me and said they wanted to fly me out to L.A. We did a boy band boot camp where we acted, danced and sang. There were cuts after time and I made it through the cuts. They sent the finalists home and then flew me out once more to test again. It was a crazy experience.”

Despite not making the cut, that experience remains his most memorable since he began acting, he said, even with being in a video with iCarly (Cosgrove).
