Inwood-based Girl Scout Troop 701 collected more than 100 pairs of shoes through its “Soles4Souls” shoe drive the troop held at the Imperial Room in Inwood on March 4.
The shoes collected are for all ages, from infants to adults, and will be donated to Soles4Soles, an organization based in Atlanta, Ga. that sends shoes and clothing to needy people around the world. Along with collecting shoes, the girls also sold Girl Scout cookies at the two-hour event.
Troop Leader Meliza Berrios said the troop plans on doing a clothing drive with Soles4Souls in the near future. “We are trying to teach the girls to appreciate all they have and to be proud to give to the less fortunate,” she said.
