Overcast and Breezy Inwood man killed on Nassau Expressway

Inwood resident Leonires Reyes was hit by a truck and killed on the Nassau Expressway near Mott Avenue in Lawrence.

Leonires Reyes, 24, of Clinton Avenue in Inwood, was walking across the Nassau Expressway from the east side to the west in the area of Mott Avenue against the traffic signal and outside the crosswalk on May 29 at 10:15 p.m., police said.
Reyes was then struck by a 2007 Ford pickup truck driven by a 54-year-old Inwood man. Severely injured, Reyes was taken to a local hospital by Nassau County Police ambulance. He was pronounced dead by an attending hospital doctor.
No other injuries were reported. Police impounded the truck for a safety inspection, but say there was no apparent criminality regarding the accident.
