Inwood residents not happy with town plowing

Several Inwood residents on multiple Facebook groups posted complaints on the lack of plowing by the Town of Hempstead as a major snowstorm struck the Five Towns and across the metropolitan area on Monday and lasted until Tuesday.

Allen Street, Bayswater Boulevard, Cedar Road and Wahl Avenue were but a few of the streets noted by upset residents who also complained about the town’s performance during the December snowstorm. Residents in Hewlett and Woodmere were not happy either.

Matthew Russo, a Woodmere resident, went outside to find his car plowed in.  “Somebody plowed all the snow into my car, Russo posted. “Are you kidding Me?"

Councilman Bruce Blakeman, whose district includes Inwood, said that he’s aware of the reported problems in Inwood and noted that there was an equipment problem with one of the trucks dispatched to the area.

“There are some areas that need more attention than others and we're working on it,” Blakeman said. "We will continue working on all the roads today and it should be relatively cleaned up by 7 p.m. this evening. The reality is that here we are a day after receiving about 18 inches of snow, this was an epic storm."

According to Blakeman, the highway department trucks all have GPS's so they can monitor every street and how many times it has been plowed.

"With a storm where it snowed for I think 36 hours straight, the truck will come and plow a street,” he added. "Then a few hours later it will look like we didn't plow a road at all."

Blakeman emphasized the need to have patience given the magnitude of the storm. "I understand that people feel that they should have their roads plow sooner,” he said. "It was a horrific storm and we all have to be patient. Our highway crews have been out in terrible conditions in all hours of the night."
