The Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department was busy within the first seven days of July as they responded to three car accidents in Cedarhurst.
A woman drove off of Central Avenue at 4:26 p.m. on July 7, went between two vehicles, hit the building at 532 Central Ave. which houses the Cheese Store and came to a stop, said Chief John McHugh. She was uninjured.
Two days before that at 12:39 p.m., a car and a pick up truck collided in front of 360 Rockaway Turnpike. One of the truck’s rear wheels flew off and went through the front door of the Urgent Care building at 380 Rockaway Turnpike. Both men were taken to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, No one else was hurt. McHugh said.
At the intersection of West Broadway and Cedarhurst Avenue on July 2 at 11:17 p.m., a man hit a tree. “He was trapped in his car and we had to cut him out,” McHugh said. The chief actually saw the man as he was returning from another call. The man was taken to Jamaica Hospital in serious condition, according to McHugh.
