How to use social media responsibly and safely? Ask Lawrence Elementary students

Posted

Learning how to responsibly use social media and safely navigate the digital world was the focus of an assembly last month when Nassau Police Department officer Yolanda Turner visited Lawrence Elementary School and spoke to students.

Turner’s talk highlighted the diverse aspects of responsible social media use, the possible risks and consequences of inappropriate online behavior, which includes cyberbullying, engaging with strangers and sharing personal information. The students learned strategies to safeguard their privacy and sustain a positive digital footprint.

“We believe that educating our students about responsible social media use is essential in today’s digital landscape,” Principal Jacqueline Beckmann said in a news release, adding that she appreciated the work of the police officers who offered the students insights on navigating “the online world safely.”
