Four Lawrence High School students advanced from the DECA State Career Conference in Rochester last week to the international level competition next month in Orlando, Fla.
Senior Victoria DiCeglio topped the opposition in the Fashion Merchandising Promotion Plan category. Senior Jessica Beyer placed second in Hospitality & Tourism Professional Sales. Junior Samantha Rubenstein finished fourth in both her role plays in Accounting Applications and senior Jonathan Rutchik was fifth in Hospitality & Tourism Professional Sales. All four students had a top 10 test and presentation.
In the category of Financial Consulting, senior Ryan Bae finished sixth, while junior Thomas Lira had a top 10 test and also on one of his role plays en route to an overall 10th place finish in Business Services Marketing.
“This was another amazing year,” said Mark Albin, a Lawrence High business teacher and DECA advisor. “Six of eight finishing in the top 10 is not only our best percentage ever, but the best in the state. This is a special group that will be missed greatly next year.”
DECA provides opportunities for students to develop skills in the areas of vocational understanding, leadership development, civic consciousness and social intelligence.
