Lawrence students put the wind into learning

Lawrence Primary School first-graders took to the outdoors and put March’s famous windy weather to use in learning about wind fluctuation and different ways to harness wind power.

Science and art blended together as the students designed their kites with the school’s art department bringing together STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math). By conducting classroom experiments on wind, the children learned how they should create their kits.

After flying their kites, the students discussed how kites fly and what role the wind plays in determining the altitude of a kite and how long it remains in the sky. “The level of excitement was incredible as the students ran through the field to see their kites soar,” first-grade teacher Dawn Feigeles said in a news release. “They had so much pride in their work as they watched their creations take flight.”
