Lawrence village says thanks to responders and its officials

It was a time for thanks and goodbyes as the Village of Lawrence honored the Nassau County police, the fire departments and its own officials at the June 27 board meeting.

In appreciation of the services provided by the 4th Precinct and Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department, village officials presented plaques to Capt. Kenneth J. Catalani, the deputy commanding officer of the 4th Precinct and David S. Campbell, chief of the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department.

For nearly 30 years of service to Lawrence, Trustee C. Simon Felder, the current deputy mayor, was hardily recognized by outgoing Mayor Martin Oliner, who hugged Felder after giving him his plaque. Felder, who retired from the board, served on the zoning board and then the village board as a trustee, deputy mayor and mayor

“Serve because you love this community — we are all volunteers — you will succeed and the village will succeed in the future,” he said.

After two terms on the board, Trustee Irving also stepped down.

Term-limited Mayor Martin Oliner, 69, who was first elected in 2010, is also leaving village government. He also served as a trustee.

“Martin Oliner is a class act and always on point, a person of unyielding integrity, a mentor,” Felder said.
