Lessening the AP exam stress

Posted

Fresh off of spring break, students slowly walked into school, dreading the fact that the last break of the school year has officially concluded. Still on “vacation mode,” regardless of if they traveled to a tropical paradise or stayed hibernating in their beds watching Netflix, many are not in the mood to work and can most likely be seen carrying a huge cup of coffee to get them through the long morning. As soon as they sit down in their first class, specifically an Advanced Placement one, they know vacation is truly over and its “crunch time.”
Bounded by contract to take AP exams, students will be sitting for tests in such subjects as chemistry, English literature and art history from May 5-19. The exams are graded on a scale of one to five; five meaning the student gets five college credits for the test and one meaning the student gets one college credit for the class.
With only a few short weeks to go before the tests, teachers scurry to finish their curriculum in time for just a few days to review. However, to help both students and teachers to feel more relaxed about the exam, Hewlett High School has scheduled numerous review sessions conducted by the AP teachers. Different teachers lead different review sessions, giving students a chance to learn from a new perspective and possibly help them understand certain topics better, as all teachers have different teaching styles.
“I think the review sessions will really help me this year. Last year, when I was in AP European History they seemed to work and made me feel less stressed,” said junior Ariel Eisenberg.
Although AP classes and exams can get stressful whether you’re a senior, junior or sophomore, juniors are most likely feel the most pressure as they are also preparing to take the SAT and ACT tests for college.
Despite the stress one might be under, the review sessions have most students on the right track. Regardless of what grade you’re in or what AP exams you are taking, I wish you stress and chaos-free studying, and good luck on all of your exams!
