An accident waiting to  happen

To the Editor:

Streets are for vehicles. Sidewalks are for pedestrians. If there’s no sidewalk, then pedestrians should walk single file at the edge of the street. The condition described in the Herald article "A safety risk?" (Sept. 24-30) is an accident waiting to happen. Eventually there will be a fatality. Something needs to be done before it’s too late.

Lots of problems, one solution

To the Editor:

There are several problems in District 15 that I believe can be solved with a single solution, which is mathematically elegant.

Problems: District 15 has to close a school. The Village of Lawrence is telling the Peninsula Public Library that it will not sell it any part of Zion Park. The library needs a new, larger home. We need a school large enough to accommodate children through sixth grade.

Solution: Sell the Number 5 School to the library. Re-open the Number 6 School, which is the newest, largest and, in my opinion, the best school in the district.
Sometimes all the cooperation that is needed is between heart and head.
