The DECA Club at Hewlett allows the students involved to participate in competitions run by DECA. Many students participated on smaller teams at the regional in categories including Business Management and Administration, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Finance, and Hospitality and Tourism.

The competition involves a prompt given to students and then presenting in front of judges. Students really enjoyed the competition and are looking forward to finding out their results. If the students performed well they advance to the state competition and there is also a national event

“DECA’s competitive events directly contribute to every student being college and career ready when they graduate from high school,” according to a statement on the DECA website.

This Sunday beginning at 10 a.m., the Hewlett Robotics Club will host and participate in the First Tech Challenge (FTC) FIRST robotics qualifier at the high school. Teams from across Long Island will compete against Hewlett’s Roboboogie and Innovo for a spot to qualify at the regional level by either winning the physical competition with their robot or n an award for overall excellence.

A large part of the awards is allocated to the engineering notebook, a collection of all the ideas, drawings, pictures and actions of a team as they built the robot. Students are encouraged to reach out to professionals working in the science, technology, engineering and math fields to serve as project mentors. In addition, teams are rewarded for any efforts to spread awareness of their achievements throughout their community.
