Lifelong Five Towns resident Mimi Berusch dies

A longtime copyreader for the South Shore Record newspaper, Mimi (Miriam) Berusch died at North Shore LIJ Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream on March 6. She was in her 90s.

Florence Schwartzberg remembers her sister as a “witty and amusing person.” Berusch, who lived in Woodmere all her life, was an active member of the Five Towns Senior Center.

Berusch’s parents were Benjamin and Dora Barondess. Her father was an attorney. Her husband, Philip Berusch, predeceased Berusch.

In addition to her sister, Berusch is survived by her children, Betsy Day, Peter Berusch and Steven Berusch, a longtime Woodmere volunteer firefighter. A brother, Dr. Jeremiah Barondess, grandchildren Benjamin Berusch, Lindsey Wheat, David Berusch

and Susan Grossman and a great grandchild

A funeral service was held at Mt. Caramel Cemetery in Brooklyn, where she was interred on March 9.
