Man assaulted, bike stolen in Inwood

Five men allegedly grabbed, pulled and threw a 45-year-old man off his bicycle at the intersection of the Nassau Expressway and Bayview Avenue in Inwood at 7 p.m. last Sunday after he refused to give them money and a cell phone, police said.

One of the young men who was described as 19, dark-skinned, 5-10, with a thin build and wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt pulled out a stick with a chain attached and hit the man in his face, according to police. Then the others allegedly kicked and punched the man. He sustained bruising and swelling to his face. He declined medical attention for his injuries, police said.

After taking the bicycle, all the young men fled the scene and were last seen on Redfern Avenue heading to the Redfern Houses complex in Far Rockaway. The other four are described as 15-17-years-old, black and all were wearing dark colored clothing, including hoodies.
