Masked man stabs Woodmere store clerk

During a struggle with a robber, a store clerk at the Woodmere Express Convenience Store was stabbed and suffered two deep cuts, police said.

At 10:25 a.m. on April 27, a man wearing a black mask over his face, a black, hooded sweatshirt, a black jacket and black gloves entered the store at 852 Broadway in Woodmere and sprayed the 38-year-old male clerk behind the counter with an unknown substance, according to police.

Going behind the counter, the man took a money from the cash register and the victim’s pockets, police said. The confrontation became physical between the two men and the clerk was stabbed. What he was cut with is unclear, according to police.

The man fled on foot and headed north on Lewis Ave. The clerk was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside and treated for his wounds, which are considered non-life threatening.
