What officials called “an apparent medical emergency” by the driver of a Mercury sedan resulted in a two-vehicle crash in front of 680 Broadway between Prospect and Groves avenues in Cedarhurst at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Traveling west on Broadway, the driver of the Mercury car moved into the eastbound lane and struck a Ford van head on. Both drivers were taken to South Nassau Community Hospital in Oceanside for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, officials said.

Broadway was closed to traffic in both directions for an hour due to the accident. Lawrence-Cedarhurst firefighters and Nassau County police responded to the scene.
