Stanley Misikoff, Boulevard-Riverside Chapels funeral director, dies at 77

Stanley Misikoff, a Hewlett resident for 41 years, died on September 28th at North Shore University Hospital. He was 77.

The Brooklyn-born Misikoff attended Brooklyn College and is a third generation funeral director. He worked in Brooklyn with his partners at Boulevard Chapels. In 1979 they built and opened a chapel in Hewlett where he worked for the past 20-plus years.

Misikoff was active in many organizations. He was Master of the Masons, Chancellor Commander of the Pythions, President and Man of the Year of the Humanity Club and a board member of the Woodmere Club and the Men’s Club at Temple Emanu El. He was active in the South Shore Chapter of UJA and was honored with his wife Barbara by the organization. He enjoyed boating with his friends and family at the Woodmere Bay Yacht Club as well as being active there.

He conducted himself with dignity and grace. His work, dedication and service to the community were paramount in his life. Over 600 people attended his funeral.

He is survived by his wife Barbara of over 50 years; his daughters Jill and Robin, and her husband Mark; and three grandchildren, Stephanie, Brian and Amy.
Misikoff’s funeral,which was presided over by Rabbi Glen Jacob, Rabbi Bruce Ginsberg and Rabbi Sholom Stern as well as Cantors Jerry Korobow and Rica Timman was held on September 30 at Boulevard-Riverside Chapel in Hewlett. Interment was at New Montefiore Cemetery in Farmingdale.

Lovel Smith Burtis, Five Towns plumber, dies at 70

Lovel Smith Burtis, a longtime Inwood resident, died on Sept. 23 at the age of 70 after a long illness.

He was a plumber for many years in the Five Towns.

Lovel is survived by his daughters, Wendy Pilot and Cindy Finkelstein, his sisters, Joan, Linda and June, his brothers, William and Bobby, and his granddaughter, Lindsey Peletier.

Memorial services were held on Oct. 10 at Our Lady of Good Council Church, located at 68 Wanser Ave. in Inwood.
