National Guardsmen from the Five Towns earn promotions based on leadership

Maliq Cumberbatch from Hewlett and Travis White of Inwood both earned promotions through their service in the New York Army National Guard in recognition of their capability for additional responsibility and leadership.

Cumberbatch, assigned to the 369th Command and Control Response Enterprise, received a promotion to the rank of private, and White, assigned to the Company C, 1-69th Infantry received a promotion to the rank of sergeant. Army National Guard promotions are based on overall performance, attitude, leadership ability, and development potential.

The New York National Guard is the state’s executive agency responsible to the governor for managing the state’s military forces, which consists of nearly 20,000 members of the Army, Air National Guard Naval Militia and the New York Guard.
