New Year for trees celebrated at Chabad of Hewlett

The Chabad of Hewlett’s Jewish Women’s Circle held its Tu B’shvat “the holiday of the trees” celebration at Chabad’s Franklin Avenue center on Jan. 16.
Local experts taught the women how to create fresh fruit arrangements by slicing and dicing, and presenting the fruit in distinctive ways. In addition, unique insights about the holiday were discussed.
Tu B’shvat is the season in which the earliest blooming trees in Israel begin a new fruit-bearing cycle. “There is so much to learn from the cycle of trees emerging from their sleep and how it’s related to us as humans on a personal level,” said Rivkie Tenenboim, co-director of the Chabad of Hewlett, who spoke to the women.
“I had a great time meeting so many new people, educating myself and seeing everybody have a wonderful time,” said Hewlett resident Judy Metz, who has attended previous Women’s Circle events.
