North Shore Animal League hosts humanitarian awards

9th Annual luncheon held at Garden City Hotel

North Shore Animal League America -- the world's largest no-kill shelter -- held its annual Lewyt Humane Awards Luncheon on June 9 at the Garden City Hotel.
NSALA honored individuals, organizations, and a hero pet "Oliver" at its 9th annual event.Honorees include those whose actions reflect the Animal League's mission to rescue, nurture and adopt orphaned animals into loving homes. The event was hosted by Emmy Award-winning writer, producer and stand-up comedian Carol Leifer. A Long Island native, Carol is the proud owner of seven rescued dogs. She signed her new book "When You Lie About Your Age, the Terrorists Win" in the lobby after the luncheon.

The award recipients were:

* Alex Lewyt Award for Mill Dog Rescue - National Mill Dog Rescue

* Spirit of Compassion Award - Lee Fosters Rescue, Wythe County Humane Society, Pulaski County Humane Society
