PCC’s seventh annual ‘A Tasteful Evening’ on Oct.15

The Woodmere Club will host fundraising event

If you love eating and trying different foods, “A Tasteful Evening” is where you should be on Monday, Oct. 15. The Peninsula Counseling Center’s signature annual event serves to bring the community together and honor those who have helped strengthen and support PCC.

More than 40 local restaurants and dessert spots will serve samplings of interesting dishes, entrées, pastries, chocolates and wines at the seventh annual event at the Woodmere Club. The chefs, bakers and vintners will also be on hand.

“We are especially grateful for the community support of ‘A Tasteful Evening’ as well as other events and appeals that enables PCC to continue to provide accessible, high-quality based mental health care,” said John Kastan, PCC’s executive director.

This year’s honorees include immediate past president of the Board of Directors Jay Greenbaum, of Hewlett, who will receive the PCC’s humanitarian award, along with the Woodmere-based Five Towns Community Chest. Debbi Gyulay, president of the Valley Stream Chamber of Commerce, will receive the outstanding leadership award.

Greenbaum is being recognized for his successful service as president and the fundraising he does by running races and competing in triathlons.

“I feel it is important for each of us to make a difference every day, to not have each day a carbon copy of the previous one,” Greenbaum said. “To that end, I became involved with PCC many years ago to help make a difference for those seeking help in all the ways PCC offers its services to the public.”

Gyulay and other Valley Stream Chamber of Commerce members welcomed PCC into their community when it moved to Valley Stream from Woodmere just a few years ago. Gyulay was instrumental in helping PCC establish its identity in its new community. The Chamber has supported multiple PCC events as well as provided many networking opportunities that enabled PCC to connect with Valley Stream schools, businesses and residents.

Five Towns Community Chest has been a friend to PCC for many years by providing necessary funds that helped PCC purchase its new building in Valley Stream, initiate many vital new programs, and contribute to a new computer room.
