Peninsula Public Library celebrated its 65th anniversary with a four-hour party at the library at 280 Central Ave. in Lawrence on Nov. 6. There were brief speeches by local officials, including Cedarhurst Mayor Benjamin Weinstock, performances in dance and song from Lawrence High School students, and face painting and balloon making for the kids, along with refreshments.

The library was officially established in 1951 and was housed in a home at the Central Avenue address. A decade later the current three-story building was built. Today, PPL has nearly 17,900 cardholders, and made 343,000 circulation transactions in the fiscal year that ended on June 30, 2015.
