Remembering the Holocaust at Congregation Beth Sholom

Holocaust Remembrance Day was commemorated by a packed audience at Congregation Beth Sholom in Lawrence on Monday. The day marks the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising in 1943 and in the U.S., the days April 28-29 in 1945, that American troops — including at least one ethnically segregated artillery
battalion of the U.S. Army, many of whose own relatives were themselves interned during the war on American soil — liberated the Dachau concentration camp and a number of its satellite camps.
Trudy Englander, a Holocaust survivor, recounted her life as a concentration camp prisoner and the fifth-grade choir from the Hebrew Academy of Long Beach, under the direction of Sandy Shmuely, sang.
