Remembering the legacy of Martin Luther King

The 10th annual Greater Long Island Jewish Community tribute to Rev. Martin Luther King at Temple Israel in Lawrence was postponed due to a January snowstorm, but the April 5 celebration of the late Civil Rights leader — on the 45th anniversary of his death — remained an effective reminder of King’s legacy.

Rabbi Jay Rosenbaum, the spiritual leader of the Reform synagogue, joined forces with several Jewish organizations and Rev. Victor Hall, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Jamaica, to hold a program that included temple children reading King’s speeches, The Calvary Baptist Church Gospel Choir performing and the audience holding hands and singing “We Shall Overcome” to demonstrate their unity.
