On Sunday, the Woodmere-based Five Towns Community Chest is sponsoring a 5K Run/Family Walk — a distance of 3.1-miles. The Village of Lawrence is hosting the event that will begin with registration at 8 a.m. in front of Lawrence Middle School at 195 Broadway. Then runners and walkers will start on Lawrence Avenue an hour later.

The route will take participants through a tour of back Lawrence as it will travel east on Broadway for nearly one mile, a right turn onto Sealy Drive, a right onto Barrett Road, then right onto Causeway. At Rock Hall Road runners and walkers will turn left to Harborview East, make another left, then turn right on Harborview South to Lawrence Avenue and a right to the finish line south of Broadway.

Streets in this area will be closed for a short time and event organizers have worked with Village Mayor Martin Oliner, Nassau County police and the Five Towns Auxiliary police to plan the route to minimize the potential for inconveniences to community residents, and provide a safe, fun, and scenic experience.

Medals will be awarded for several categories including for first, second and third overall men’s and women’s finishers and eight age categories. Medal will be awarded for all walkers under 10-years-old. The run/walk will end as the fair opens for the day.

Proceeds will benefit the many service agencies of the Five Towns Community Chest. For more information contact Community Chest at (516) 374-5800 or PBOHNET@FIVETOWNSCOMMUNITYCHEST.org.
