Nearly 75 runners took part in the Chesed (kindness) In My Backyard (CIMBY) 5K run as part of Lawrence-based Achiezer’s initiative to demonstrate the power of kindness throughout daily life. The run took place in Far Rockaway on Oct. 30.

Established in 2009, Achiezer, which is run by founder and president Rabbi Boruch B. Bender, combines the strengths of all existing communal resources along with its own capabilities to help during emergencies and assists with medical, financial, emotional or practical support. Money was raised by the runners who were sponsored at the platinum level of $1,000, gold $750, silver $500, bronze $360 and basic $250.
