Sea rescue by Atlantic Beach Bridge

Three boaters were rescued from a sinking sailboat near the Atlantic Beach Bridge Wednesday morning at 2:20 a.m., according to Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department Chief Michael Sasso. The early morning rescue was executed by members of the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department with the assistance of the Atlantic Beach Rescue Squad and members of the New York Police Department Air Sea Rescue, according to Sasso.

The 23-foot vessel was located by rescuers off the jetty at Silver Point Beach Club with three people on board and taking in water while positioned on its side, and surf pushing it onto the rocks. All three boaters were successfully rescued, and none sustained injuries, according to Sasso. The sailboat wrecked on the rocks.
