Selling lemonade, battling Alzheimer’s in North Woodmere

In North Woodmere, Serena Zarfati, an 11-year-old Yeshiva Hartorah student, raised funds and awareness for The Longest Day by selling lemonade, ices and cookies on June 17, Father’s Day. People stopping by also had the opportunity to make tie-dye T-shirts. Zarfati took part in the fundraising to honor her grandfather, who died from Alzheimer’s disease three years ago.

On June 21, people across Long Island and the world will take pat in The Longest Day —showing their love for people affected by Alzheimer’s disease. This is a day of hope, where people will do what they love to honor a caregiver, someone living with Alzheimer’s, or someone they’ve lost to the disease. Whether it’s choosing a favorite activity, hosting an event or joining a team, participants will raise funds and awareness to advance Alzheimer’s Association care, support and research programs.

With roughly 47 million people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, including 5.7 million in the United States and 400,000 across New York state, the disease is considered a global health crisis.
