SIBSPlace celebrates 15 years of helping

The atrium of South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside was packed with people on Oct. 20 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Hewlett-placed SIBSPlace (Survivorship in Brothers and Sisters), a free after-school therapeutic program founded by Hewlett Harbor resident Michael Schamroth in partnership with South Nassau.

Originally established to help children 5-17 who have siblings with cancer or another devastating illness, Hewlett-based SIBSPlace was expanded in 2007 to include kids who have a parent with cancer. Donations and fundraising events support the program financially. Currently nearly 50 kids and their parents are part of SIBSPlace.
