On Tuesday, residents went to the polls and voted for commissioners in seven special districts; including a half dozen that provide fire protection in Atlantic Beach, Hewlett, Inwood, North Lawrence, Meadowmere Park and Woodmere. All terms begin on Jan. 1.
Inwood
With 223 votes George Miller Jr. defeated David Winzelberg and Anthony Rivelli Sr. for the fiver-year commissioner's term. Miller joins his father, George Miller Sr. on the fire district board.
Hewlett
Mark Lorberbaum garnered 24 votes in an uncontested election to gain his second five-year term.
The referendum to create an initial $50,000 capital reserve fund to finance radio and technology purchases was approved with 13 votes.
Woodmere
Israel Max defeated incumbent Commissioner Erik Kinney and fellow challenger Darren Moritz for the five-year term. Yehuda Karkowsky ran unopposed for a two-year term.
Atlantic Beach Fire District
John R. Faulhaber collected 63 votes and Joseph A. Montilli received 62 votes for a five-year and two-year term, respectively. Both ran unopposed. Montilli will complete the unexpired term of Jeff Trott who stepped down earlier this year.
Greater Atlantic Beach Water Reclamation District
Current Chairman Scott Mason got 83 votes as he was re-elected to a three-year term.
Meadowmere Park Fire District
Andrew Schmitt, who ran unopposed for a second consecutive five-year term, received 37 votes.
North Lawrence Fire District
Incumbent Louis Spinelli ran unchallenged for a five-year term. He got 11 votes.
