Spreading the sweet love at Lawrence High

Posted

Lawrence High School students spent the final week prior to mid winter in the sweetest way possible, celebrating Valentine’s Day! The warmth of love between friends, admirers, and faculty was enough to keep everyone warm during the February’s frigid weather.

Valentine’s Day festivities at Lawrence High encompass one of everybody’s favorite annual events, “The Love Your Life Concert.” The show was held on the evening of Feb. 13, and it was the perfect lead up to the sweetest day of all.

The concert showcased members of the school community, and featured dancing, singing, rapping, orchestral, and rock performances, along with much more. The show was truly a treat for all in attendance, and fortunately for students and faculty, it was not the only treat to be enjoyed.

The week also included the vending of delicious treats, conducted by school clubs and organizations. The Dance Honor Society, directed by Lawrence dance instructor Laila Sales sold popcorn in a multitude of flavors such as French vanilla, birthday cake, butter and salt, and buffalo chicken.

Their delicious popcorn and slogan: “Your love is poppin’” was enough to add just the right amount of pop to our Valentine’s Day celebration. Orders were taken by Dance Honor Society members, who then diligently prepared the popcorn for delivery to favorite teachers, friends and lovers on Valentine’s Day.

If you are a chocolate lover like many, Students Against Destructive Decisions lead by Jeannine Cammarata had the perfect treat for you. SADD sold Valentine’s Day bundles of Hershey’s kisses and candies. Students and faculty members could purchase a bundle and create a personalized card to be delivered along with it, or they could simply buy it and take it with them.

As club members, students and staff members bustled around delivering gifts and greetings on Valentine’s Day the Future Homemakers of America club headed by Ruth Cohen sold indulgent cupcakes, along with scented teddy bears in the school. This truly was the icing on the cake.

Although, these gifts may be thought of as inexpensive and small, the gesture of having one delivered to you, especially if you’re feeling lonely on Valentine’s Day really goes a long way and makes people feel special.
Valentine’s Day at Lawrence High School is about spreading love and happiness to any and everyone, because here at Lawrence we are all one big family where everyone is loved.
