St. John’s Hospital in Far Rockaway names interim obstetrics head

With nearly 20 years of experience and a familiarity with St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, Dr. Jacqueline Marecheau was named interim chairwoman of obstetrics and gynecology at the only hospital on the Rockaway Peninsula.

Marecheau will oversee the array of services performed by the OB/GYN team with the aim to improve the overall quality of care. For the past two year, she was the director of quality and patient safety for women’s health.

A Bronx native, Marecheau was a faculty staff attending physician at Long Island College Hospital, where she completed her residency training and became a medical student clerkship director. Moving on to NYU-Langone-Brooklyn (formerly Lutheran Medical Center)

Marecheau was a faculty attending doctor there for nine years. She also chaired the Quality Assurance committee for the federal qualified health center in women’s health.

“It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Dr. Jacqueline Marecheau as interim chairperson of the department of obstetrics and gynecology,” Dr. Donald Morrish said in a news release. He is St. John’s chief medical officer and senior vice president of medical affairs. “Her experience and passion for women’s health will benefit the Rockaway community at large and I forward to working with here as wee improve the way St. John’s provides care to women.”

Marecheau earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical education the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education (now called CUNY Medical School). She attained her medical degree from SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn and is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.
