The Whopper’s back and Hewlett’s got it

Once again one of the four corners at the intersection of Peninsula Boulevard and Mill Road in Hewlett has been altered as a brand new Burger King now stands on the site of a Gulf gas station adjacent to the Peninsula Shopping Center.

Years ago the property was an Exxon station owned by Jim Hamburger, who most likely would have appreciated the irony of a having a burger restaurant where his former business was. After opening on Jan. 17, the “Home of the Whopper” has been a hit. “We had a line out the door,” said John Froccaro, one of the owners. “It looked like a nightclub.” They previously owned the Burger King where the TD bank is now, which closed in 2014.

Froccaro owns this location and 36 others from south New Jersey to Southampton, along with his brother, Michael, and their cousins, James and Jake Froccaro. They are excited to be back in the Five Towns. “We jumped at the opportunity,” John said. “We love it over here, we’ve always had a great relationship with the town. The neighborhood is great, and we’re Long Island guys so it’s great to be around the area.
