Need to get rid of those non-kosher for Passover items? Go to the the 18th annual Woodmere Fire Department chometz burning on Wednesday, April 6 from 6 to 11 a.m., outside the firehouse at 20 Irving Place in Woodmere.
The fire department sets up about five trash cans and keeps a watchful eye on the burning item, then dumps the refuse and ashes into a dumpster, where a larger fire burns. Neighbors from surrounding communities are welcome.
Copies of the appropriate prayers are available on tables as well as a donation jar to aid the all volunteer department that has roughly 60 active members, including firefighters and emergency medical technicians.
