Drivers hit head-on, spill closed Burnside Avenue

A two-car crash at the intersection of Burnside and Lawrence avenues in North Lawrence at 8 a.m. today resulted in injuries to the drivers of the vehicles and a fluid spill that shutdown the westbound side of Burnside Avenue for an hour, officials at the scene said.
Nassau County police responded to the scene and the Lawrence-Cedarhurst Fire Department were called to contain the spill, which was a mixture of oil and transmission fluid.
The cars, a Mercedes Benz and a Lexus, collided head on and both drivers were taken to St. John's Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway and treated for non-life threatening injuries, officials said.
